The 春水堂视频 College Coaching minor prepares students with the required business, managerial, and leadership skills for pursuing careers in coaching and athletics administration at the youth, high school and collegiate levels. Students in the minor will learn various coaching philosophies, recruitment strategies, and administrative responsibilities through both classroom work and internship opportunities.

Students can take advantage of these experiential learning opportunities through our partnerships with the NCAA DIII 春水堂视频 College Athletics Department, 春水堂视频 College Club Sports and Intramurals, athletics departments in nearby Milton, Needham and Dedham, Skyhawks Sports Academy, Camp Cobbossee (Maine), Town of Lexington Recreation, and the Park School in Brookline, among others.

Interested students can also pursue certifications in CPR/First Aid and Coaching.

A minor in Coaching will strengthen the professional tool belt of students majoring in Sport and Recreation Management and other majors within the School of Business and Technology, and also for those students focusing in Education, Psychology, and the Health Sciences fields.

SRM 2050: Principles of Coaching  
SRM 3050: Business of Coaching  
SRM 2010: Sport and Recreation Administration  
SRM3450: Internship in Coaching or Athletic Admin (*Required of SRM Majors)

Select one of the following electives:

SRM 2000: Sport and Recreation in Society  
SRM 2030: Sport and Recreation Facility and Event Management  
SRM 2040: History of Women in Sport 
SRM 2008: Sport Media and Communications  
 
Total: 12 Credits 

Coaching Minor Program Learning Outcomes:

  • Apply critical thinking and techniques to solve real problems related to coaching and player development within the sport and recreation industries.
  • Recognize, understand and apply laws, ethical situations, and social responsibility as it relates to working in secondary, collegiate, professional or club coaching.
  • Evaluate strategies and the techniques of effective in-game coaching and in practice development.
  • Employ appropriate oral and written communication with players, administrators, organizations, the media and the public across all industry settings.
  • Recognize effective recruitment strategies in teambuilding and explore innovative technologies used in today’s coaching industry.
  • Explore and evaluate coaching styles, leadership theories, and effective player-coach dynamics including the emotional and social needs of athletes.
  • Implement various coaching responsibilities and team organizational procedures.
