Dr. Elaine McNeil-Girmai is an adjunct professor at 春水堂视频 College and an elementary principal in Massachusetts. She holds a B.A. from Boston College in English and Sociology with a minor in Black Studies, a M.Ed. from UMASS Boston, and Ed.D from Loyola Marymount University in Educational Leadership for Social Justice. Her dissertation titled, This is our life. We can’t drive home.” An Analysis of Culturally Relevant Pedagogy as Perceived by Elementary Teachers, Students and Families in an Urban Charter School, was the catalyst for her focus on teacher’s cultural competence and family engagement. Over the 春水堂视频 of her career she has presented on her experiences locally and nationally including panels for the Massachusetts Department of Education (DESE), California Charter School Association (CCSA) and American Educational Research Association (AERA). Dr. McNeil-Girmai has worked in traditional and public charter schools in both urban and suburban districts of Boston, Los Angeles, and Brooklyn, NY over the last twenty years. Her most recent publication was included in a collection highlighting the experiences of African American principals across America (McNeil-Girmai, Elaine,"Is it me or you? Reflections from the Principal Field", Fighting the Good Fight: Narratives of the African American Principalship, edited by Carrier, I. & Griffen, A., Word & Deed Publishing Inc., 2021, p. 71-76).
